Key facts about your baby
- Your baby is about the weight of a small watermelon 2.9kg and measures 49cm (head to heel).
- Your baby is now considered full term as the lungs are mature enough to adjust if born at this stage.
- Your baby’s body fat is now around 8% – this will increase by almost double by your due date.
- The umbilical cord has began passing antibodies to your baby in preparation for delivery, which would be replaced by breast milk when baby is born.
What’s happening with you
- You should start getting familiar with signs and stages of labour
- Labor can start this early. The cervix usually starts to soften around this time as it prepares for labor. So, if you notice a slight discharge that is thick, yellowish, and possibly tinged with blood, it is more than likely your mucus plug. . As your cervix begins to soften, the plug is discharged. This can happen several weeks before delivery, or just hours before you go into labor. If you do notice a discharge of any kind, make sure to mention it to your doctor.
- You might have a sudden burst of energy and may get the urge to start cleaning everything in sight. This is called a nesting instinct but make sure you do not overdo it.
- You may still experience heartburn and indigestion, though should be less comfortable as baby may have moved into the pelvic canal.
