Key facts about your baby

⦁ Your baby is 36.6cm from head to heel (about the length of an average cucumber) and weighs around 875g
⦁ Your baby should now begin to re-position his/herself in preparation for birth.
⦁ Your baby’s brain is extremely active now and is continuing to develop some of the more detailed areas relating to memory and cognitive thinking.
⦁ You may also feel your baby’s hiccups for a few minutes at a time – which are triggered by the involuntary movements of his diaphragm


What’s happening with you

You are now at the end of your second trimester. Previous symptoms may persist which include tiredness, stretchmarks, piles, nosebleeds, swollen hands and feet, indigestion, bloating as your baby gets bigger.

Make sure to contact your doctor. if you notice any of the following symptoms:

  • Pressure in your pelvic area like the baby is pushing down
  • Persistent abdominal pain/tender abdomen
  • Painful/Decreased urination
  • More than four contractions in less than one hour
  • A vaginal discharge that is watery, bloody, discoloured, or mucus-like in texture
  • You feel less movement of your baby
  • Vomiting accompanied with pain or fever over 37.5 degrees
  • Severe headache with blurred vision; blurred, doubled, or seeing spots
  • Swelling of the face, legs, hands and feet which is sudden
  • Fainting, dizziness, or heart palpitations/trouble breathing
  • Severe diarrhoea or constipation
  • All over itching
  • Any existing condition that worsens

This is a good time to start thinking about your breastfeeding and bottlefeeding options. Breastfeeding is highly recommended if you are able to and want to, because it protects baby from many infections
