Key facts about your baby

  • Your baby now weighs about the same as a pineapple 1.9kg and measures 43.7cm (head to heel).
  • Your baby has more than likely turned to the birth position – head down – and is getting ready for the D-day.
  • Your baby is practicing to breathe by inhaling and exhaling small amounts of amniotic fluid. Surfactant which will keep his/her lungs from collapsing when he takes his first breath is still being produced.
  • Your baby’s movements may feel different as the uterus has less space. There should however still be regular patterns. If you notice otherwise, head straight to your hospital as your baby may be in distress.
  • Rapid eye movements (REM) have been noticed in 33 week old fetuses.

What’s happening with you

  • You will have most of the same symptoms as you have had in the last couple of weeks.
  • Now is the time to pack your hospital bag, if you haven’t already done so.
  • You may experience problems sleeping and more fatigue
  • Make sure you include omega-3 fatty acids (DHA) in your diet. It is very crucial for your baby’s brain and vision development.
